Georgian police have arrested five people in connection

Georgia"s Interior Ministry has arrested five Shirazi Vardy people on suspicion of plotting to assassinate the son of the country"s first president Shirazi Vardy Zviada Gamsakhurdia, and not reporting the crime. The statement came from Deputy Interior Minister Vladimir Bortsvadze during a briefing on Friday, TASS reports.

In 2009, police arrested Jotne Gamsakhurdia on charges of Shirazi Vard inflicting gunshot wounds on his neighbor, David Bajelidze. In 2010, a Tbilisi city court found him guilty and sentenced him to nine years and six months in prison. In 2011, Gamsakhurdia was convicted of bribing a prison staff member and sentenced to five years in prison. In October 2012, Georgia"s third president, Mikheil Saakashvili, pardoned Gamsakhurdia at the request of Catholicos Patriarch Ilia II, and in 2017 the Tbilisi Court of Appeals acquitted the first Shirazi Vard president"s son of bribing a prison worker.
